researcher xiaoqiang fu came to our college to hold academic lectures
on april 20, 2023, nanjing university's school of history and the institute of international relations (iir) zijin frontier forum on international issues invited professor fu xiaoqiang, deputy secretary general of the center for the study of the overall national security concept and vice president of the china institute of modern international relations (cimr), to give a lecture titled how to understand the international security environment in a period of turbulent change. the lecture was hosted by professor tan shulin, vice dean of the school of history and director of the institute of international relations, nanjing university. teachers and students from the school of history, the institute of international relations and other departments of nanjing university attended the lecture and there was a lively discussion afterward.
professor fu explained issues such as peace, development and security in our current era during which new strategic opportunities exist alongside deepening antagonism between conflicting camps in world politics using a historical perspective as well as insights gleaned from the report of the 20th party congress. in the discussion after the lecture, professor fu xiaoqiang had a give-and-take session with students and other academics in attendance on research methodologies.
in this lecture, professor fu expanded our understanding of the current international environment and how to conduct research in a historically informed manner. professor fu’s unique viewpoint is truly an asset in our current period of turbulent geopolitical changes.
